Assistant Principal / Community And Inclusion Coordinator

The Assistant Principal of Community & Inclusion will support the operations at School 5 for 50% of the work day and is responsible for the organization and communication of districtwide diversity, equity, and inclusive programming as well as the promotion and integration of districtwide culturally sensitive and responsive practices for the balance of the rest of the day (50%).

Performance Responsibilities:

  • I. Relationship with the Superintendent and Central Office Administrators: Supports all official decisions on district matters by the Superintendent of Schools.
  • II. Responsibilities: Organizes student programs that provide for exposure to positive role models and promotion of success among historically marginalized backgrounds. Organizes and partners with the District Parent Involvement Committee and serves as the administrative liaison. Manages and leads District DEI Council. Oversees the promotion of district attendance initiatives.
  • III. Anti-Bullying Coordinator: Oversees the District's K-12 Anti-Bullying Specialists and other staff as assigned by the Superintendent to develop a comprehensive Anti-Bullying Program. Works collaboratively with the Director of Curriculum, Superintendent, Principals, and Anti-Bullying Specialists and other administrative staff. Assists in the coordination of supplemental programs and consultants (i.e. assemblies, guest speakers, etc.) Develops and coordinates a district-wide process for the ongoing training of administration, staff, and students pursuant to the NJDOE mandates and guidelines as assigned including HIB. Assists in the oversight of software which monitors online and unsafe student behaviors. As needed, speaks to/with the Board of Education about bullying related incidents, recommendations for discipline or services, or any programs implemented to reduce such incidents. Oversees the online Hib Reporting System. Collaborates with administration to accurately complete and manage the Student Safety Data System.
  • IV. Affirmative Action Officer: Serves as the Affirmative Action Officer ensuring District compliance with policy, regulation, and law. Serves as the Compliance and Hearing Officer in all activities required in accordance with federal mandates such as Title VI and Title VII. Oversees the Comprehensive Equity Plan and collaborates with administration as required.
  • V. Curriculum: Collaborates in the identification and development of professional development needs and assists in the creation of a multi-year Equity Strategic Plan. Models dedication to the life-long learning process and prioritizes commitment to independent research: outside district programming, educational trends, educational philosophies, innovative ideas, and innovative models that will have a positive impact on student achievement, student safety, mental health, and overall welfare. Continues to grow professionally through collaboration with colleagues and professional growth experiences.
  • VI. Other Duties: Conducts classroom observations and provide staff feedback. Participates in teacher and support-staff evaluations. Reviews student achievement, discipline, and other data points and help identify student and staff instructional needs. Investigates student behavior concerns and assign appropriate consequences. Implements restorative, developmentally appropriate disciplinary practices. Monitors behavior plans and student support interventions. Communicates with families regarding discipline, attendance, and behavioral concerns. Supports schoolwide behavior programs, including PBIS. Supervises arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, hallways, and school events. Help students develop conflict-resolution and self-regulation skills. Assist the principal with school-improvement planning and goal monitoring.

Salary Range: $100,000 - $135,000 based on experience

Terms of Employment: This is a 12 month position.

Evaluation: The performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
