Geneva County Schools is seeking an Assistant Principal for its Middle/High School. This position assists the High School Principal and the Middle School Principal with administrative and instructional functions to meet the educational needs of students and carry out the mission and goals of the schools and the System.
The Assistant Principal reports to the High School Principal and the Middle School Principal.
The job goal is to assist with administrative and instructional functions to meet the educational needs of students and carry out the mission and goals of the schools and the System.
The Assistant Principal supervises assigned personnel.
Performance responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting in managing and administering the development, implementation, and assessment of the instructional program at the assigned schools.
- Assisting in using current research, performance data, and feedback from students, teachers, parents, and community to make decisions related to improvement of instruction and student performance.
- Assisting in promoting high student achievement.
- Assisting in coordinating program planning with system instructional staff.
- Assisting in managing the selection of textbooks, materials, and equipment.
- Assisting in managing and administering the testing program for the school.
- Assisting in aligning school initiatives with system, state, and school goals.
- Assisting in establishing and coordinating procedures for student, teacher, parent, and community evaluation of curriculum.
- Assisting in directing the development of the master schedule and assigning teachers according to identified needs.
- Assisting in facilitating the horizontal and vertical articulation of curriculum within the schools, as well as between the schools and their feeder system.
- Assisting in interviewing and selecting qualified personnel to be recommended for employment.
- Assisting in supervising assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals, and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions.
- Assisting in implementing and administering negotiated employee contracts at the school sites.
- Assisting in assigning and supervising school personnel to special projects for the enhancement of the schools.
- Assisting in establishing job assignments for school-site administrators, teachers, and support personnel.
- Assisting in developing and administering duty rosters for certified and non-certified staff as required.
- Assisting in supervising the operation and management of all activities and functions at the assigned schools.
- Assisting in developing positive school/community relations and act as liaison between the school and community.
- Assisting in communicating effectively both orally and in writing with parents, students, teachers, and the community.
- Assisting in accessing, analyzing, interpreting, and using data in decision making.
- Assisting in establishing procedures for an accreditation program and monitor accreditation standards at the assigned schools.
- Assisting in developing the system strategic plan, system school calendar, system staffing plan, and manpower plans. Assist in managing and administering school functions relating to these items.
- Assisting in developing short- and long-range facility needs at the assigned schools.
- Assisting in coordinating facility and support service requirements.
- Assisting in coordinating plant safety and facility inspections at the assigned schools.
- Assisting in coordinating all maintenance functions at the assigned schools.
- Assisting in coordinating and supervising transportation services at the assigned schools.
- Assisting in managing and supervising the schools' financial resources, including the preparation and disbursement of the schools' budgets and internal accounts.
- Assisting in establishing and managing student accounting and attendance procedures at the assigned schools.
- Assisting in coordinating the school food service program at the assigned schools, including the free and reduced food service program requirements.
- Assisting in conducting staff meetings to discuss policy changes, instructional programs, potential problems, and resolution of existing problems.
- Assisting in communicating, through the proper channels, to keep the Superintendent informed of impending problems or events of unusual nature.
- Assisting in directing the establishment of adequate property inventory records and ensure the security of school property.
- Assisting in implementing school board policy, state statutes, and federal regulations as they pertain to the assigned schools.
- Assisting in supervising the preparation and maintenance of accurate and timely reports and records.
- Assisting in establishing guidelines for proper student conduct and implement disciplinary procedures and policies that ensure a safe and orderly environment.
- Assisting in establishing procedures to be used in the event of school crisis and/or civil disobedience and provide assistance in leadership in the event of such happenings.
- Assisting in coordinating and supervising of all extracurricular and athletic programs at the assigned schools.
- Assisting in managing and supervising the schools' athletic and student activity programs including the selection of club sponsors and coaches, approving all school-sponsored activities, and maintaining a calendar of all school events.
- Maintaining visibility and accessibility on the school campus.
- Attending school-related activities and events.
- Assisting in managing and administering personnel development through training, in-service and other developmental activities.
- Assisting in providing training opportunities and feedback to personnel at the assigned school.
- Participating in county-wide management meetings and other meetings and activities appropriate for professional development.
- Maintaining high standards of professional conduct.
- Serving as a member of the Superintendent's system-wide management team.
- Assisting in providing leadership in the school improvement process and the implementation of the school improvement plan.
- Assisting in establishing a vision and mission for the school in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Assisting in setting high goals and standards for self, others, and organization.
- Using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to guide individuals and groups to task accomplishment.
- Assisting in performing other tasks consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.
- Performing any additional duties as assigned by the High School Principal and/or the Middle School Principal.
Physical requirements include medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
Terms of employment include salary and benefits consistent with the System's approved compensation plan, length of the work year and hours of employment established by the System, and evaluation in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
