The Jones County School System (JCSS) Athletic Director serves as the visionary leader and administrator for 6-12 athletic programming for the JCSS. This position also provides oversight and direction for elementary sites as feeder programs for the district. The JCSS Athletic Director is responsible for data-driven short and long-range planning in support of a continuous improvement model to strengthen athletic offerings and opportunities for all students.

Essential duties include organizing and conducting regular meetings with head coaches and other related personnel to ensure knowledge of and compliance with county and state practices, procedures, and regulations. The Athletic Director is responsible for building systems designed for positive outcomes allowing coaches to focus on coaching, developing students, and building successful programs. Coordination, monitoring, and planning for the athletic budget at the county and school level by leveraging clear, concise, and measurable metrics for data-driven decision making is also required.

The Athletic Director advances the district vision and effort toward a first-class game day experience for athletes, the student body, faculty/staff, the community, and other relevant stakeholders. Providing direction, managing, and supporting short and long-term initiatives for high-quality athletic facilities is also part of the role. The Athletic Director manages athletic schedules, contest contracts, officials, practice schedules, game administrators, security, ticketing, gate operations, event staffing, and visiting-team communication.

A visible presence at practices, competitions, athletic events, and throughout the school day across 6-12 sites is required. Support for a system designed for development and refinement of feeder programs to include an emphasis on grades 5-6 programming is also necessary. Engaging with appropriate professional organizations and providing for and encouraging opportunities for coaches to participate in clinics, workshops, staff development, and state/regional conferences is part of the role.

The Athletic Director assists school administrators and coaching staff with communication and professional dissemination of information to staff, students, community, media, or other administrators regarding athletics. Evaluating, interpreting, implementing, and making recommendations regarding policies and procedures for effective athletic programming is also required. Serving in a coaching/evaluation capacity in the Georgia Leader and Educator Acceleration and Development System (GaLEADS) for teachers, as assigned, is part of the role.

The Athletic Director assists with centralized enrollment, eligibility, disciplinary issues, and investigations involving athletics. The role also includes assisting in the preparation of the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) reports for athletics, maintaining records of coaching assignments for equitable supplemental schedules/allocations, and recommending appropriate purchases for equipment and supplies.

Facilitating athletic contracting for short and long-range planning as related to branding, equipment, and supplies, assisting personnel officials in the recruitment and interviewing of head coaching candidates and related support staff, coordinating scheduling and administration of events/activities including countywide tournaments/playoffs and officials, and approving/facilitating all transportation requests for athletic competitions are also part of the role.

Attending games and athletic functions as a representative of the Jones County School System, serving as the district representative at region and state committees, acting as an intermediary between Jones County High School, the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), the Middle Georgia Regional Educational Service Agency (MGRESA), and the State Department of Education, responding to public and parent/guardian/family concerns regarding athletics for the Jones County School System, region, and Georgia High School activities, acting as the Title IX Coordinator and Gender Equity Compliance Coordinator for the Jones County School System, and performing other duties as assigned by the Superintendent are also required.
