Workers Compensation Attorney

We are seeking a results-driven Workers' Compensation Attorney to join our civil defense practice representing employers and insurance carriers. The ideal candidate will manage a high-volume caseload from intake through resolution, develop case strategy, handle litigation at administrative hearings and in court, and negotiate settlements while protecting client interests and minimizing exposure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of workers' compensation claims for employers and insurance carriers, from initial intake through resolution.
  • Develop and implement case strategy, evaluate liability and exposure, and advise clients on risk management and potential outcomes.
  • Draft and file pleadings, motions, administrative submissions, and responses in a timely and effective manner.
  • Conduct discovery, prepare and respond to written discovery, coordinate and take depositions, and handle subpoenas.
  • Prepare for and represent clients at administrative hearings, mediations, and trials, including presenting evidence and examining witnesses.
  • Negotiate settlements with claimants, defense counsel, and third parties to achieve favorable outcomes while minimizing costs.
  • Communicate regularly with clients to provide case updates, explain legal options, and make strategic recommendations.
  • Work collaboratively with claims adjusters, medical experts, and outside counsel when necessary to build strong defenses.
  • Maintain accurate case files, billing records, and track deadlines to meet all procedural and statutory requirements.
  • Stay current on workers' compensation law, civil defense trends, and relevant regulatory changes to provide informed representation.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the CA state bar.
  • 3+ years of workers' compensation litigation experience, preferably representing employers and/or insurance carriers.
  • Proven experience with workers' compensation law, insurance defense, and administrative hearing procedures.
  • Strong litigation skills including drafting pleadings, managing discovery, taking depositions, and conducting trials or hearings.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop case strategy, evaluate claims, and negotiate settlements.
  • Experience handling subpoenas and coordinating third-party documents and witness testimony.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong legal research and drafting ability.
  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with case management systems, e-filing, and court/agency rules and procedures.
