Employment Law Attorney-Defense

We are a fast growing defense firm looking to add a talented attorney to our growing employment defense team in CA. This position is 100% remote and offers autonomy, great support, and collaborative culture to help you grow your career and succeed at our firm. We are looking for PAGA/Wage&Hour experience primarily, but a strong background in discrimination, FEHA, wrongful termination, etc. can also work.

We are seeking an experienced Employment Law Attorney to provide high-quality legal counsel and representation in workplace-related matters. The attorney will manage a diverse caseload involving litigation, administrative proceedings, and counseling on compliance and risk mitigation. Success in this role requires strong litigation skills, deep knowledge of employment statutes and regulations, and the ability to deliver pragmatic solutions to clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice to clients on federal and state employment laws, policies, and best practices, including wage and hour, discrimination, retaliation, leave laws, and employee classification.
  • Handle all phases of litigation from intake through trial and post-trial, including drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, witness preparation, and trial strategy.
  • Lead and defend PAGA (Private Attorneys General Act) claims and wage & hour class/representative actions, including strategy development and settlement negotiations.
  • Conduct workplace investigations into harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and other employee complaints; prepare investigative reports and recommend remedial actions.
  • Represent clients before administrative agencies (e.g., DFEH, EEOC, DLSE) and in alternative dispute resolution forums, including mediations and arbitrations.
  • Draft and review employment agreements, separation agreements, policies, handbooks, and compliance materials to reduce litigation risk.
  • Manage client relationships, communicate case status clearly, and provide practical guidance on litigation exposure and compliance strategies.
  • Supervise and mentor junior attorneys, paralegals, and support staff; manage billing, calendaring, and case documentation to meet firm and client expectations.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the state bar.
  • 3+ years of employment litigation experience (defense and/or plaintiff-side), with a demonstrated track record of managing complex cases through motion practice and trial.
  • Proven experience handling PAGA claims, wage & hour litigation, and discrimination matters; familiarity with California employment law and administrative processes is highly desirable.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills; experience preparing briefs, motions, and client-facing memoranda.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and a history of achieving favorable settlements where appropriate.
  • Ability to manage a substantial caseload, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Professional integrity, strong client-service orientation, and effective interpersonal skills for working with diverse clients and stakeholders.
  • Comfortable mentoring junior team members and contributing to a collaborative team culture.
