The YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley is hiring for multiple positions for our "Y Care" program, which is a licensed before and after school program operating in the Rome, Oneida, Whitesboro, Stockbridge, VVS, Waterville, NYMills and other Central NY and Mohawk Valley elementary schools. Applicants must be able to work from 3-6PM, M-F, or mornings from 7-9, or both. We are seeking qualified applicants who enjoy working with children, implement lesson plans, use positive reinforcement, and able to comply with NYS OCFS regulations. We have openings for the Oneida area Site Assistants.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction and supervision of the Site Director or Multi-Site Director, and in harmony with the Christian nature and purposes, and the established policies, goals and objectives of the YMCA of the Greater Tri-Valley, the Assistant Teacher works as a supportive staff to provide effective programs and a warm, safe, loving and nurturing environment in which the child can grow physically, emotionally and intellectually.

Essential functions include establishing positive relationships with parents, children, school personnel and other staff members; assisting the Group Teacher in implementing quality program curriculum and lesson plans; assisting with supervision of children; assisting with positive reinforcement and disciplinary needs of children; assisting with maintaining a physically and mentally safe environment for the children; supporting and participating in YMCA functions; attending all required staff meetings; assisting with record-keeping; following and enforcing Association and departmental policies; attending YMCA program for snow days and other school holidays/vacation days/days off as needed by the YMCA; substituting at other YMCA SACC sites as required; actively pursuing training and learning opportunities and certifications relating to the position; maintaining a workplace free from all forms of harassment; adhering to policies related to boundaries with youth; attending required abuse risk management training; adhering to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising youth; reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations; and following mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Education, training and work experience requirements include CPR, First Aid and AED Certification; meeting all Association-Wide training requirements in addition to those set forth by their Supervisor; meeting the qualifications to be an Assistant Teacher according to New York State Office of Children and Family Services Licensing requirements; passing a Nationwide Criminal and Sex Offender Registry Background Screening; ensuring that the physical and social environments for program delivery reflect the Y's definition of character and value; and a High School diploma or its equivalent or one year experience working with children under 13 years of age.
