Behavior Support Assistant (C-324)

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience working with children or youth in a school, childcare, or community setting. Ability to supervise students and provide positive, consistent behavioral support. Ability to follow directions, work with school staff, and communicate effectively with students and adults. Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow all district policies and procedures.

Reports To: Director of Federally Funded Programs

Compensation: Part-Time /Hourly position

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Assist in supervising students who need additional behavioral support to remain engaged in the school setting.
  • Provide redirection, encouragement, and positive reinforcement to promote appropriate behavior.
  • Support teachers and school staff by helping students follow classroom expectations and routines. Monitor students during transitions, small-group activities, or designated support areas as assigned.
  • Assist in implementing simple behavior strategies developed by teachers or administrators.
  • Maintain basic documentation of student behavior, participation, and support provided.
  • Communicate promptly with school staff regarding behavioral concerns or safety issues.
  • Help ensure a safe, structured, and calm environment for students throughout the school day.
  • Participate in school-based training related to student supervision and behavior support.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all student information.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and positive working relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Adhere to all IPSB policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to the IPSB Internet Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Adhere to the IPSB Employee Dress Code.

Professional Responsibilities:

  • Maintain professional personal appearance and demonstrate respect for colleagues.
  • Attend work regularly; report to work on time; and provide advance notice of need for absence.
  • Complete work efficiently and accurately (with few/no errors) within deadlines without supervision.
  • Perform job responsibilities consistently, use time wisely, plan properly, take care of materials and equipment.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate trustworthiness; exercise good judgment.
  • Support, implement, assist with, and/or ensure application of district initiatives and other programs or directives of the Superintendent and Board.
  • Keep direct supervisor informed of the progress being made in the area(s) of responsibility.
  • Report to the Iberia Parish School Board as needed or directed.
  • Keep abreast professionally by attending local, regional, state, or national meetings and/or staff development that address area(s) of responsibility as directed by the supervisor.
  • Complete and submit all forms, reports, documentation, and trainings mandated by state legislation and/or Louisiana Department of Education by required dates and in accordance with district policies and procedures.
  • Remain open to suggestions and innovative ideas; receive and apply feedback.
  • Demonstrate competence in areas of responsibility.
  • Exert every effort to constructively involve stakeholders in all professional settings.
  • Communicate appropriately and work effectively with all populations.
  • Exhibit desirable qualities such as commitment to job responsibilities, enthusiasm, cooperation, creativity, tact, positive attitude/work ethic, dependability, punctuality, self-discipline/control, poise, voice control, effective nonverbal communication, a professional appearance, initiative, and a genuine concern and interest for others.
  • Follow the specific requirements established by the School Board (LEA), Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE), the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), and/or Federal regulations and guidelines established by each.
  • Model ethical behavior at schools and in the community.
  • Does not engage in outside work or activities that will interfere with job duties.
  • Adhere to and support the policies and procedures of the Iberia Parish School Board and the assigned school, including but not limited to: Employee Acceptable Use Policy for District Technology Resources (EFA), Employee Use of Social Media (EFAA), Use of Telephones and Other Electronic Telecommunication Devices (GAMI), and Electronic Communications Between Employees and Students (GAMIA).
  • Follow the appropriate chain of command when communicating concerns.
  • Use appropriate language that is void of vulgarity, lewdness, coarseness, or profanity.
  • Perform any duty, not specifically assigned, as deemed necessary by the assigning authority in order to maintain continuity where needed.
  • All employees are subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with IPSB Employee Alcohol and Drug Testing Policy (GAME).
