Work Environment:
This position is performed in a manufacturing environment, with some local travel between facilities.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and shop sketches
- Set up and operate a variety of CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling etc.
- Build fixtures and various holding devices as needed to hold or support work pieces in process
- Analyze job requirements and use best shop practice to meet drawing requirements in the most efficient time
- Inspect high precision parts using blueprints and adhering to GD&T tolerances
- Supervise multiple machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to tool offsets and G&M code to keep part in tolerance
- Adjusting feeds, speeds, and other settings to ensure optimal performance
- Understanding the properties of different metals and materials used in machining
- Determine tools needed to perform given task and set-up those tools accordingly
- Understanding tool wear and how to compensate as well as understanding how to prevent tool wear
- Set tool offsets and diameter compensation
- Edit G&M code on the controller as well as on PC with .TXT documents
- Operate forklift as needed
- Assemble machined or fabricated components as needed
- Train and assist 2nd & 3rd class machinists as needed
Qualifications:
- Proficient in performing machine set-ups with little to no set up instructions
- Thorough understanding of measuring instruments, on-the-job use: Tape measure, calipers, OD micrometer, depth micrometer, bore gauges, surface gauge, height gauge, gauge pins, gauge blocks, pitch micrometer, ID micrometer, blade micrometer, thickness gauges, radius gauges
- Understand the process to square material up correctly
- Proficient in the use of various hand tools as necessary to achieve finish requirements
- Ability to effectively use power-driven equipment
- Understand tool deflection and how to combat it in different types of materials
- Understand part flatness and how to achieve flatness with different types of materials
- Proficient in proofreading G&M code to ensure no crashes or mistakes occur as well as performing a test run to ensure program outputs are accurate
- High mental and visual effort required
Minimum Requirements:
- 3-5 years' experience as a machinist
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of formal apprenticeship program or completion of in-company, four-year training program
