Director of Institutional Research & Analytics

The Director of Institutional Research & Analytics is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the research and analytics processes at Laredo College. The Director provides institutional personnel with appropriate data-driven information to be used in planning for growth and assessing institutional effectiveness at Laredo College. The Director is also responsible for providing data and compiling institutional data reports for local, state, and federal entities.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct and ensure accurate and timely submission of THECB CBM reports, IPEDS, SACSCOC information, and other required state/federal reports.
  • Lead development of dashboards, trend analyses, longitudinal studies, enrollment/retention/completion analytics, and other decision-support products for executive leadership.
  • Provide the data research functions appropriate for assessing the College's programs, units, and departments.
  • Conduct longitudinal student tracking studies and surveys to assess instructional performance and effectiveness.
  • Oversee the systems, databases, reporting applications, scripts, and analytical tools used by IR&A and ensure appropriate documentation and business continuity.
  • Collaborate with the AVP and academic/student services leadership on strategic planning, program review, assessment, accreditation, and institutional effectiveness.
  • Review, monitor, and approve Institutional Research & Analytics Department expenditures and develop an annual budget for the department.
  • Ensure that department personnel have opportunities for professional growth and advancement and participate in decision making within the Institutional Research & Analytics Office.
  • Assign work, establish deadlines and cross-training, evaluate staff performance, develop employees, and ensure adequate backup for critical reporting functions.
  • Actively participate as a member of the College's Leadership Council and any other committees assigned.
  • Serve as a principal institutional resource to executive leadership regarding interpretation and appropriate use of institutional data.
  • Perform other relevant duties assigned by the Associate Vice President of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness.

Required:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in Statistics, Business Administration, Social Sciences, Programming, Management Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related research fields with a minimum of three years of progressive administrative experience within a community college or university;
  • OR a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the fields listed above with a minimum of seven years of progressive administrative experience within a college or university institutional research office.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive administrative experience within a community college or university setting.
  • Working knowledge and experience with statistical tools (SPSS, SAS, etc.), Power BI, and Banner.

Preferred:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive administrative experience within a college or university institutional research office.
  • Professional certification in institutional research, data analytics, business intelligence, data management, or a related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must demonstrate strong leadership, supervisory, analytical, organizational, communication, and decision-making skills;
  • Knowledge of institutional research methodologies, statistical analysis, data governance, and higher education reporting requirements;
  • Proficiency with database, reporting, business intelligence, and data visualization systems;
  • The ability to ensure data accuracy and integrity, interpret complex information, communicate findings effectively, manage multiple priorities and reporting deadlines, develop staff, and support institutional planning and data-informed decision-making.

All hires are subject to a 90 day introductory review period. Employees of the Institutional Research & Analytics department are supervised by the Associate Vice President of Planning & Institutional Effectiveness. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
