A highly regarded law firm is seeking an experienced Environmental / Natural Resources Attorney to join its Environmental, Land Use, Natural Resources & Real Estate practice. The attorney will work on complex and high-profile matters involving environmental regulation, natural resources, water supply, energy, infrastructure, and renewable development.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise on complex regulatory issues involving NEPA, the Endangered Species Act (ESA), Clean Water Act (CWA), NHPA, and related federal and state environmental laws.
- Draft pleadings, briefs, and substantive arguments in federal administrative record litigation.
- Counsel clients regarding environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and enforcement matters.
- Participate in negotiations with federal and state regulatory agencies.
- Work with agencies including the Bureau of Land Management, Army Corps of Engineers, and National Marine Fisheries Service to obtain permits and regulatory approvals.
- Handle matters involving renewable energy and major infrastructure projects, including solar, wind, hydropower, transmission lines, submarine cables, reservoirs, and related development.
- Work on significant water and natural resources matters, including Colorado River and California State Water Project issues.
- Monitor and analyze developments in federal environmental statutes and regulations.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of relevant environmental and/or natural resources law experience.
- J.D. or LL.M. from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active bar admission or eligibility for admission in the jurisdiction where the attorney will practice.
- Experience with environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, enforcement, and/or environmental litigation.
- Experience involving NEPA, ESA, CWA, SEPA, NHPA, or comparable federal/state environmental laws strongly preferred.
- Strong legal research, writing, drafting, and analytical skills.
- Ability to independently manage sophisticated matters while collaborating closely with partners and other attorneys.
- Strong organizational, communication, and client-service skills.
