Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive environmental health and safety programs across all district buildings. This role ensures strict compliance with federal, state, and local regulations to maintain a safe and healthy learning and working environment for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will strike a balance between technical expertise, strategic planning, and hands-on training, serving as the district's primary subject matter expert on all safety and environmental matters.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Inspections & Audits: Conducts regular safety, health, and environmental audits across all district facilities.
• Regulatory Liaison: Serves as the primary point of contact for external regulatory agencies.
• Hazardous Materials: Oversees the management, storage, and disposal of hazardous waste.
• Air & Water Quality: Manages indoor air quality investigations, radon testing, lead-in-water testing, and remediation plans.
• Recordkeeping: Maintains logs of safety data sheets, injury reports, and compliance certificates.
• Staff Training: Manages mandatory safety training programs for district staff.
• Accident Investigation: Leads investigations into workplace accidents and implements corrective action plans.
• Safety Committees: Chairs the District OSHA Safety Committee.
• Project Review: Reviews blueprints and construction plans for safety, accessibility, and environmental compliance.
• Budgeting: Assists in developing and managing the annual health and safety budget.
• Procurement: Collaborates on the procurement of consultant services and safety items.
• Communication: Prepares internal and external departmental communications.
• Availability: Must be available for occasional evening meetings and on-call for after-hours emergency responses.
• Professional Continuing Education & Networking: Maintains active membership in relevant professional organizations.

Required Skills & Abilities:

• In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state-specific safety regulations relevant to educational institutions.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Basic knowledge of finance, including revenue and expenditure accounting.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in relevant Environmental Health & Safety field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Five years of environmental health & safety experience.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to travel frequently between the district's buildings.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Three years of experience working in the field of public K-12 environmental health & safety.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Associate Safety Professional (ASP).

Work Environment:

ISD 622 is a community collaborative dedicated to educating and empowering all learners to excel in our changing world. As an Environmental Health & Safety Manager in our learning environment, the individual will work indoors primarily in an office setting. Requires regular movement across multiple campuses. The ability to climb ladders, enter mechanical rooms, walk roofs, and inspect tight spaces. The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting (up to 40 lbs), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. There may be irregular tasks that involve possible exposure to physical hazards, including but not limited to: uneven walking surfaces, confined spaces, dust, heat, cold, heights, odors, noise, and vibrations. An incumbent in this position must follow all ISD 622 safety procedures including wearing required personal protective equipment as required in these circumstances. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
