The Alaska Family Medicine Residency (AKFMR) offers a rigorous, full-spectrum curriculum with a strong emphasis on rural and underserved communities. Most training occurs in Anchorage, Alaska, where residents care for a diverse, underserved urban populationour clinic patients speak more than 90 languages. Residents also gain hands-on experience in remote rural Alaska, working in small, off-road system communities. Graduates of the program practice in a wide range of settings, including outpatient care, emergency medicine, obstetrics, inpatient adult and pediatric care, ICU, and fellowship training.
As an integral member of the AKFMR faculty, you will serve as an advisor and mentor to residents while contributing to a broad range of clinical and educational activities. Responsibilities include precepting in the ambulatory setting, direct patient care, supervision of outpatient prenatal and pediatric care, and participation in inpatient services as appropriate. You will join a collegial, mission-driven faculty team and work alongside highly motivated residents in Anchoragea vibrant community set in the heart of Alaska's scenic landscape.
Position Details:
- Full-time faculty position working directly with Family Medicine residents
- Combination of faculty and clinical responsibilities, including required outpatient care and either inpatient care or inpatient obstetrics (including operative OB, if desired)
- Opportunities to participate in specialized programs such as Wilderness Medicine (summer and winter), Transcultural & Community Medicine, the Alaska Addiction Medicine Fellowship, and the Alaska Psychology Internship Consortium
- Strong interest in academic primary care preferred, but not required
- Experience or interest in scholarly activity, including research and publication, is a plus
- AKFMR holds Osteopathic Recognition; D.O. candidates with an interest in OMT are encouraged to apply
- Prior teaching or precepting experience preferred
- Full-spectrum Family Medicine experience preferred, though not required
