Primary Purpose Of This Job
The Forge Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily shop floor operations, ensuring production goals, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently met. This role leads production employees, coordinates workflow, monitors equipment and staffing needs, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to support operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Essential Functions
- Supervise and coordinate daily manufacturing and shop floor activities
- Lead, train, coach, and evaluate production employees
- Ensure production schedules and deadlines are achieved safely and efficiently
- Monitor product quality and ensure compliance with company standards and specifications
- Enforce all workplace safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations
- Troubleshoot production issues and work with maintenance or engineering teams to minimize downtime
- Maintain accurate production reports, labor tracking, and inventory documentation
- Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, waste reduction, and process efficiency
- Conduct shift meetings and communicate production goals and expectations clearly
- Assist with staffing, scheduling, disciplinary actions, and performance management
- Ensure proper operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment
- Coordinate with other departments including Quality, Shipping, Purchasing, and Engineering
- Provide information and analysis related to deviations in process or product. Lead corrective action investigation.
- Implement corrective action as necessary. Support Engineering department in tooling, methods, and procedure/process revision tryouts to improve quality, reduce costs, and develop production methods for new jobs.
- Communicate downtime and coordinate with Maintenance and Engineering as appropriate, to diagnose machine and equipment malfunctions. Expedite repairs and corrective measures to minimize schedule interruptions.
- Promote employee involvement in problem solving and participation in operational teams. Support employee and operational initiatives, continuous improvement and cost reduction efforts.
- Ensure the highest level of safety and good housekeeping in work environment through implementation of ATI safety practices.
- Managing Shift payroll is complete and accurate for HR to process.
- Supervise and manage production crews in the forging of aviation metal components. Responsible for correct techniques, methods, sequence, safe operations, and to ensure a quality product.
Minimum Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree or technical certification preferred
- 35+ years of manufacturing experience, including leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, shop operations, and safety procedures
- Ability to read production schedules, blueprints, and work instructions
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and manufacturing software systems preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
- Certification and Licensing
- Forklift certification (if applicable)
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Preferred Skills
- Strong verbal, written, and employee relations skills
- Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience
- Experience with ERP or inventory management systems
- Strong organizational and time management skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and varying temperatures
