Lead Rutgers NJMS's Liver Transplant Anesthesiology Program
StartDate: ASAP Pay Rate: $625000.00 - $700000.00

AMN Healthcare is partnering with Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) to recruit a Liver Transplant Anesthesiologist for a unique academic leadership opportunity within the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care. As the current Director of Cardiac and Liver Transplant Anesthesiology prepares for retirement, Rutgers seeks a physician who can provide exceptional clinical care while helping lead and shape the future of the program.

This faculty appointment offers the opportunity to become a key leader within one of the region's most respected academic medical centers. The successful candidate will play an integral role in the continued growth of New Jersey's first liver transplant program, mentor residents and junior faculty, support program development, and help guide the strategic direction of transplant anesthesiology at University Hospital, New Jersey's Level I Trauma Center.

While expertise in cardiac anesthesia is required (40-50 cases), the primary focus of this role centers on liver transplantation, transplant anesthesiology leadership, and academic program development.

Opportunity Highlights

  • Leadership opportunity: Step into a prominent leadership role as the department prepares for the retirement of its current Director of Cardiac and Liver Transplant Anesthesiology. Help shape the future vision, growth, and clinical excellence of the program.

  • Lead a respected liver transplant program: Play a central role in New Jersey's first liver transplant program while partnering with multidisciplinary transplant teams committed to exceptional patient outcomes.

  • Academic influence and mentorship: Teach residents one-on-one in complex liver transplant and high-acuity anesthesiology cases while contributing to curriculum development, faculty mentorship, and scholarly initiatives.

  • Competitive compensation: Base salary by academic rank (Assistant Professor $425K, Associate Professor $450K, Professor $475K) plus approximately $170K in annual variable compensation and a $10K fellowship stipend.

  • Balanced high-acuity practice: Focus on liver transplantation and advanced transplant anesthesia while maintaining exposure to selected cardiac anesthesia cases. Faculty do not cover both services simultaneously.

  • Program growth and innovation: Join an expanding academic division with opportunities to advance transplant services, participate in quality initiatives, and contribute to clinical research and program development.

  • Predictable call structure: Home beeper call approximately 13 weeks annually, overtime compensation at $300/hour, optional late-call premiums, and structured call tiers.

  • Additional earning opportunities: Optional Stone Center shifts with premium hourly compensation. Practice personally administered anesthesia without resident or CRNA coverage.

  • Immigration friendly: H-1B visa candidates are encouraged to apply.

  • Comprehensive faculty benefits: Medical, dental, retirement plans (PERS or ABP), commuter benefits, 26 vacation days annually, and eight CME days with a $5,000 meeting allowance.

  • Experience in Liver Transplant Anesthesiology, Cardiac Anesthesiology
  • Passion for academic medicine, teaching, and mentorship
