This is an outstanding opportunity for surgeons seeking low-volume 24-hour call coverage without clinic responsibilities. You'll provide emergency general surgery coverage alongside an established surgical team while enjoying the support of the ECU Health referral network. Complex trauma, ICU patients, and highly specialized surgical cases are transferred to tertiary facilities, allowing you to focus on community-based emergency general surgery.

With premium compensation, manageable patient volumes, beautiful coastal surroundings, and flexible intermittent coverage blocks, this assignment is ideal for surgeons looking to maximize income while maintaining an excellent work-life balance.

Provider Pay: $2,300 per 24-hour call shift

Pay Ranking: Top 5–10% nationally for community General Surgery call-only locum assignments.

• 24-hour call only (7:00 AM – 7:00 AM)
• No clinic responsibilities
• Established General Surgery practice
• Orientation required the day before first shift
• Approximately 15 patient encounters daily while on call
• Approximately 8–16 operative cases weekly
• No ICU responsibilities
• No critical care management
• No code response requirements
• Epic EMR
• ECU Health Air & Ground Transport available for tertiary transfers
• Beautiful coastal North Carolina location
