Position Summary
We are seeking a reliable and safetyfocused Machine Operator Plastics Compounding & Recycling to support daily operations in our plastics compounding and recycling facility. The Machine Operator will be responsible for running production equipment, monitoring material flow, ensuring product quality, and maintaining a clean and efficient work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation & Production
- Operate, set up, and monitor blending, extrusion, grinding, pulverizing, or molding equipment used in plastics compounding and recycling.
- Load raw plastic materials, additives, colorants, and recycled feedstock into machines per production specifications.
- Ensure consistent material flow and troubleshoot interruptions or equipment issues.
- Perform routine adjustments to maintain quality and throughput.
Quality Control
- Conduct visual inspections of materials and finished products for consistency, contamination, and uniformity.
- Collect samples and perform basic quality tests (e.g., sieve analysis, melt flow, color checks) as required.
- Document production data, test results, defects, and machine readings clearly and accurately.
Safety & Maintenance
- Follow all plant safety procedures including lockout/tagout and PPE compliance.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance such as cleaning, lubrication, and equipment checks.
- Report mechanical issues to maintenance promptly.
Material Handling
- Use forklifts, pallet jacks, or similar equipment to stage raw materials and move finished products.
- Maintain proper labeling and organization of materials, bins, and production areas.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in plastics manufacturing, compounding, extrusion, or recycling preferred.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate industrial equipment safely.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail, organization and ability to follow production instructions.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods as required in production environments.
- Forklift experience a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Skills Needed
- Understanding of plastic resins, additives, pigments, and recycled materials.
- Ability to read production sheets, scales, gauges, and basic measurement tools.
- Problemsolving skills and ability to work independently.
- Strong communication and teamwork.
Work Environment
- Fastpaced manufacturing setting involving heat, noise, dust, pellets, and recycled plastic material.
- Shiftbased schedule with potential overtime.
- Standing, bending, lifting, and repetitive motion required.
