CNC Machinist

PGS Worldwide is seeking a CNC Machinist in Palmdale, CA for a one-year contract role supporting Northrop Grumman.

The CNC Machinist will support the Tooling department by setting up and operating milling machines to perform precision machining operations involving compound angles, contours, angular holes, helical and spiral milling, serrating, gear cutting, spline cutting, and keyway cutting. This role requires CNC mill experience, CNC lathe experience, programming experience, and the ability to perform own setups and determine machining sequences.

Required Skills

  • 25 years of related machining experience.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • CNC mill experience.
  • CNC lathe experience.
  • Programming experience, including MCAM.
  • Formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
  • Ability to set up and operate horizontal, vertical, plain, or universal milling machines.
  • Ability to perform machining operations to exacting tolerances.
  • Ability to select, mount, and align specialized machine attachments and tooling.
  • Ability to plan sequence of operations, number of cuts, and method of setup.
  • Ability to determine, set, and adjust speeds, feeds, and depth of cut.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
  • Experience using machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
  • Ability to perform standard shop computations.
  • Ability to measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points for machining layout.
  • Ability to monitor and verify quality using statistical process or other control procedures.

Preferred Skills

  • 5-axis machining experience.
  • Live tooling experience for CNC lathes.
  • Wire EDM experience.
  • SNK 5-axis experience.
  • Aerospace tooling or machine shop experience.

What You'll Do

  • Set up and operate milling machines for precision tooling work.
  • Machine compound angles, contours, angular holes, helical and spiral features, serrations, gears, splines, and keyways.
  • Select and align specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised tooling.
  • Plan machining sequences, setups, speeds, feeds, depths of cut, and required cuts.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications.
  • Use hand tools and precision measuring instruments to verify work.
  • Lay out stock for machining by measuring, marking, and scribing dimensions.
  • Support quality verification in accordance with process control procedures.
  • Support onsite tooling operations in Palmdale.

Work Schedule / Shift

  • 2nd shift.
  • MondayThursday, 3:00 PM1:30 AM.
  • 4x10 schedule.
  • Full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • 10% travel.

Pay

  • $61.96/hour
