Nursing Supervisor

The primary purpose of Nursing Supervisor is to provide clinical leadership and direction of patient care for the hospital as well as the outbuildings. The position incorporates staff, patient and family teaching as well as working cooperatively within the interdisciplinary health care team to maintain standards of nursing care within the framework of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.

The Off-Shift Nursing Supervisor provides hospital-wide clinical and operational leadership during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays when administrative and departmental leadership may be limited. The role is responsible for promoting safe, high-quality patient care while supporting nursing staff, coordinating hospital operations, and responding to urgent clinical and operational needs. The supervisor provides oversight of staffing and patient assignments, facilitates admissions, transfers, and discharges, and assists with appropriate resource allocation across inpatient and ancillary departments. The position serves as a key escalation point for patient care concerns, staffing challenges, clinical emergencies, patient/family concerns, and interdepartmental issues. During off-shift hours, the supervisor serves as an organizational leader and hospital representative, fostering effective communication, staff accountability, teamwork, and a culture of safety and professionalism. The role may also participate in incident management, emergency response, conflict resolution, performance coaching, and follow-up of significant clinical or operational events.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Nursing certification preferred.
  • Current, active licensure as a Registered Nurse through the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Ability to assist with patient care as needed.
  • Obtain and maintain current American Heart Association (AHA) training in Basic Life Support (BLS) utilizing Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required.

Working Conditions:

Hours: Primarily off-shift, 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts 3p-7a Monday # Friday, and 24 hour weekend and holiday coverage. Subject to changes in working shifts. Continuous contact with nursing staff, physicians, and the multidisciplinary team. Hazardous Exposure Category Category II - Includes tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but employment may require performing unplanned Category I tasks. The normal work routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues by exposure or potential exposure may be required as a condition of employment. Appropriate protective measures will be readily available to every employee engaged in Category II tasks.
