UVA Health is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible OB/GYN Hospitalist to join a dedicated OB/GYN program. These roles are designed for physicians who prefer hospital-based obstetric care, predictable scheduling, and a strong emphasis on patient safety, teamwork, and work-life balance. Opportunity Overview:
These positions are hospital-based OB/GYN roles focused exclusively on inpatient obstetric and emergent gynecologic care. The laborist provides 24-hour in-house coverage for Labor & Delivery, supporting unassigned patients, emergency department consults, and inpatient obstetric needs.
The model is intentionally structured to improve patient outcomes, support nursing and multidisciplinary teams, and reduce call burden for community-based OB/GYN physicians.

Clinical Responsibilities & Coverage Model:
Provide in-house Labor & Delivery coverage during assigned shifts
Manage labor, delivery, and postpartum care for unassigned and emergent patients
Perform vaginal and cesarean deliveries
Respond to obstetric emergencies and rapid response events
Provide emergency gynecologic consultations and procedures as needed
Collaborate closely with outpatient OB/GYNs to ensure smooth handoffs and continuity of care
Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and standardized obstetric protocols
Shift-based model - open to dialogue around hybrid inpatient/outpatient responsibilities, if desired
Hospital-Based Resources:
24-hour in-house anesthesia
Level III NICU with strong neonatal and maternal support
DaVinci robotic surgical system
Advanced critical care and interventional radiology support
Robust Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) collaboration, including ultrasound interpretation and high-risk consult availability
Candidate Qualifications:
Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology
Eligible for Virginia medical licensure and DEA certification
Comfortable managing high-acuity obstetric care and emergencies
Strong communication skills and commitment to team-based care
Interest in patient safety, standardized care, and hospital-based practice
Open to experienced physicians and recent graduates with strong obstetric training
The base compensation range for this role is $356,790 - $484,770 for a 1.0 clinical FTE status. Individual compensation will be determined by fair market value and the selected candidate's qualifications, clinical experience, specialty training, credentials, and/or education. Please note that the pay range does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs, such as productivity, quality, non-productivity, or other incentives that may be available for eligible positions.
