Qualifications:
- Strong work ethic
- Strong communication skills
- Oral and/or written references from colleagues and/or supervisors testifying to the candidate's qualifications
- A passing grade on the ParaPro Exam or Associate's Degree
- Experience implementing Discrete Trial Instruction (DTI) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) is highly preferred.
Requirements:
- It is essential that instructional paraprofessionals have demonstrated experiences:
- Working with children (preferably in an educational setting)
- Following lesson plans and instructional objectives
- Connecting with students facilitating learning
- Collaborating with colleagues (preferably in an educational setting)
- Adhering to student privacy and confidentiality policies
- Learning new techniques with flexibility
Responsibilities:
- Under the direction and supervision of the classroom and/or special education teacher, a paraprofessional will:
- Provide instructional assistance under the direction of the classroom or resource room teacher, in one-to-one or small group settings
- Learn and implement behavioral support plans
- Work with students who may be aggressive or disruptive in class
- Provide behavioral support which may include physical management (training provided annually)
- Support students' social integration
- Implementing Discrete Trial Instruction (DTI), as planned by Special Education Teacher/Team
- Collect and chart data as instructed by an educational team
- Support/monitor/assist student(s) during recess/lunch, if necessary
- Support/monitor/assist student(s) during sensory break(s) or other break/reinforcement periods
- Communicate student needs and progress with classroom and resource teacher
- Maintain strict confidentiality in regard to all aspects of student program, progress, etc.
- Provide instructional and/or behavioral support for students in the general education setting
- Ride the van/bus to monitor special education safety needs, if necessary
- Assist students with self-care needs, (e.g., potty training, toothbrushing), if needed
- Additional responsibilities as assigned engage in duties such as, but not limited to, lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal duties
Term/Duration: This position is available immediately and is for the 2025-26 school year. Workdays follow the Orange Public Schools Student Calendar, therefore work is available on school days and days per contract agreement for 6.5 hours a day and 32.5 hours per week. Salary: Follows Union Contract. NOTE: A stipend may be offered to the successful candidate who is a BCaBA (Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst)
