Position Summary
Specialty Medical Center is seeking a compassionate, motivated, and skilled Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our growing Pain Management team. The Physician Assistant will work collaboratively with board-certified pain management physicians to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients experiencing acute and chronic pain conditions. The PA will provide comprehensive patient care, develop individualized treatment plans, perform appropriate procedures within scope of practice, and educate patients on pain management strategies while ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical history and physical examinations.
Diagnose and manage acute and chronic pain conditions under physician supervision.
Develop individualized treatment plans based on evidence-based pain management practices.
Order, interpret, and review diagnostic imaging and laboratory studies.
Prescribe medications in accordance with Michigan law and DEA regulations, including controlled substances when authorized.
Monitor patients receiving opioid therapy and ensure compliance with state and federal prescribing guidelines.
Perform follow-up visits to assess treatment effectiveness and modify care plans as needed.
Assist physicians with interventional pain procedures, including:
Epidural steroid injections
Facet joint injections
Medial branch blocks
Radiofrequency ablations
Joint injections
Trigger point injections
Sacroiliac joint injections
Perform office-based procedures within scope of practice.
Review imaging studies such as MRI, CT scans, and X-rays.
Coordinate care with primary care providers, specialists, physical therapists, and case managers.
Educate patients regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment options, lifestyle modifications, and procedural expectations.
Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical records (EMR).
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, DEA, and clinic policies.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical meetings.
Assist with prior authorizations, peer-to-peer reviews, and medical documentation when necessary.
Qualifications
Required
Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
Current NCCPA certification.
Active Michigan Physician Assistant license.
Current DEA registration and controlled substance license (or ability to obtain).
Current BLS certification.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic abilities.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with supervising physicians.
Preferred
1-3 years of experience in pain management, orthopedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), neurology, family medicine, emergency medicine, or internal medicine.
Experience with EMR systems.
Experience performing musculoskeletal injections and office procedures.
Knowledge of opioid prescribing guidelines and chronic pain management protocols.
