Full time, direct hire role

The position sits on-site 2-3x per month in Temple, TX (50 miles north of Austin). However, McLane is building a new office in North Austin, TX and once that office is open (in about 6 months), this role will sit on-site at the North Austin office 3 days per week.

We are needing candidates who have strong, hands-on engineering in PowerBI. Candidates also need to have experience in managing teams

Team is seeking a hands-on Lead-type who can be a go-to person for the team. They have been doing interviews; those that were rejected was mostly due to not being "working, hands-on managers" who can handle both hands-on and people-management.

Resource will start as an IC and hands-on developer, then be part of building the team ground up; team size will be ~5-6 max, mix of on/offshore resources. The team is staffed well today with ideal span of control, but they want to have the next Engineering Manager in place so they are ready to scale. Will be hands-on until they grow into a manager.

Engineering Manager is still a "working management" role, 70% hand's on technical/management and 30% people management, work with Product Owners and setting standards/schedules. Engineering Manager should be involved enough to answer 70% of on the ground questions, help as a Lead in a hands-on capacity.

Technology stack:

• Strong Cloud experience required but open to which cloud provider AWS, Azure, GCP
• McLane is on their Fabric journey, so ideally candidates have experience with Fabric and have put a couple products in place working with billions of lines of data but Fabric is a preference, not a requirement
• Experience writing complex queries and DAX
• Experience with large data sets and complex reporting
• Strong SQL dev skills
• Python
• PySpark
• Spark
• Big Data experience

Nice to have:

• Azure cloud (Fabric would be exceptional)
• Agile environment (but understanding they are immature in Agile)

Reporting Structure: Data Engineering Manager will report into Data Director (to be hired soon), then new Data Director role will report into Vice President, Data Analytics.
