The Pre-Anesthesia Clinic (PAC) Manager provides administrative oversight and works collaboratively as a member of Perioperative Services Leadership with Medical Directors, providers and staff to optimize patient care. The PAC manager exercises independent judgement and also uses leadership and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaborative communication to advance the goals of the PAC. The Pre-Anesthesia Clinic Manager is responsible for providing direct supervision to NP's Advanced Practice Providers (APP's), RN's, and non-clinical staff in the PAC. Provides direction to the team who is responsible for patient evaluation, testing, diagnosis, plans of care and treatment within PAC.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license, or Physicians' Assistant (PA) license, or Registered Nurse Practitioner (NP) license, without restriction
- National board certification if an NP, in an aligned specialty, as it applies
- Furnishing License as it applies
- DEA within three (3) months of hire, as it applies
- BLS Certification: American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing (if RN or NP applicant).
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (if RN or NP applicant)
- Master's degree in nursing (if RN applicant, preferred upon hire; but must be completed within one year of hire if currently enrolled).
- APP Nurse Practitioner (NP) applicants must have Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and Master's Degree in Nursing upon hire.
- APP Physician's Assistant (PA) applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree and completed a PA Graduate Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the PA (ARC-PA) upon hire.
- Five (5) years of related / relevant experience in a surgical clinic, inpatient unit, Pre-op PACU or Pre-Anesthesia Clinic setting.
- Two (2) years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Ability to meet minimum standards for hospital credentialing and billing standards as a billable provider.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills to interact and collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external customers including patients, physicians, management, and staff.
- Self-direction and organizational skills to function in an independent role, carry out directives from Perioperative Services Nurse Director; and set objectives and priorities for staff.
- Demonstrates accountability and professionalism at all times serving as a role model.
- Adapts to change in a positive, professional and productive manner.
- Knowledge of legal and risk implications in clinical practice and documentation
- Knowledge of performance improvement and evidence-based practice
- Critical thinking skills including strategic planning, operational process analysis and service recovery
- Advanced knowledge of pathophysiology and nursing process to provide clinical leadership within the Perioperative Division.
- Knowledge of professional standards.
- Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory requirements, policies and contracts and ability to ensure compliance.
- Sound assessment and decision making skills to respond quickly to changing patient care and staff needs
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- Basic computer skills
- Demonstrated experience managing daily operations of a nursing unit, or staff scheduling.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specialty Certification for RN or APP: Ambulatory Care, CAPA, CPAN, CNOR
- Experience in resource management and budgeting.
- Supervising in a union environment.
- Demonstrated project, process, or quality improvement experience.
- Experience working at a Level 1 Trauma Center.
- Experience working at an Academic Medical Center.
- Experience working in a Magnet Designated Hospital setting.
- Proficiency in developing and updating unit policies and procedures to align with best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in performance evaluations, staff development, team collaboration, and conflict resolution.
- Experience using the electronic medical record, EPIC preferred.

The Pre-Anesthesia Clinic (PAC) strives to optimize patient care by identifying and mitigating perioperative risks, preventing complications, minimizing day-of-procedure delays and case cancellations, while enhancing each patient's understanding of their upcoming procedure and anesthetic plan. The Pre-Anesthesia Clinic provides services across the UC Davis Health system, supporting patients throughout the lifespanfrom pediatric to geriatric populations. The clinic serves a broad range of surgical and procedural specialties.
