Job Description
About the job:
Title: Forward Deployed Engineer (Palantir Foundy AIP) - 100% remote
- Massive, greenfield opportunity to help the largest TPA in the world build their AI Platform and utilize GenAI to improve customer experiences. Multiple openings for both Principal and Senior level engineers
Job Type: Permanent/Direct Hire
Primary Purpose:
- The Principle Forward Deployed Engineer (Foundry & AIP) within the AI Transformation Office is responsible for partnering directly with Palantir's team and take ownership of the technical outcome of Palantir engagement. This person co-leads delivery with Palantir’s FDE lead as a peer — shared backlog, shared repos in our accounts — and is the engineer Casualty transformation leadership calls directly. They design the claims ontology, write production Foundry and AIP software, sit with examiners, and keep business logic from living only inside Foundry.
- Owns the technical outcome of Palantir Foundry and AIP delivery for the claims control tower and related Casualty transformation initiatives, from problem shaping through production operation.
- Co-leads delivery with Palantir’s forward-deployed engineering lead as a peer: shared backlog, shared repositories in our client's accounts, shared definition of done. Palantir does not ship into a black box that we later accept.
- Leads ontology design for claims, parties, coverage, events, and examiner work — object types, link types, actions, and restricted views — as versioned artifacts we own internally and can materialize outside Foundry.
- Establishes and enforces the graduation gate for Foundry and AIP work: customer-facing, SLA-bearing, Tier 1 claims-impacting, or hard-to-reproduce artifacts are rebuilt on our paved road rather than promoted in place.
- Ensures no business logic, workflow definition, or canonical event contract exists only as a Foundry configuration. Durable copies live as our cok-owned, version-controlled artifacts.
- Architects and builds production Foundry pipelines, Code Repository transforms, Workshop applications, and AIP Logic / agent workflows, personally contributing code, not only reviewing it.
- Defines the interface between Foundry / AIP and the enterprise platform: identity (Entra, agent vs. human), governed write-back to Juris services, consumption of approved Kafka / CTS event contracts, and evaluation / provenance requirements.
- Partners directly with Casualty business leadership, examiners, and operations to shape problems in the workflow — sitting with users, leaving with a scoped build, and refusing work that would wire new capability onto a process known to be broken.
- Represents the Palantir stream on the AI Engineering design council. Escalates architecture conflicts with enterprise standards (portability, model egress, semantic-layer ownership, PHI handling) rather than absorbing them quietly into Foundry.
- Sets engineering standards for Foundry and AIP co-development: code quality, markings and security, observability, evaluation of AIP outputs, and human-in-the-loop confirmation for consequential claims actions.
- Provides technical guidance and mentoring to the Senior Forward Deployed Engineer and to Palantir FDE counterparts on Sedgwick domain, data, and operating constraints.
- Leads complex troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance optimization for business-critical Foundry pipelines, Workshop applications, and AIP agents.
- Evaluates and recommends whether a capability should remain on Foundry / AIP, graduate off it, or never have been built there — and makes that recommendation with a named owner and a removal path.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Ten (10) or more years of software engineering experience, including at least four (4) years in a forward-deployed, embedded, or customer-facing engineering role delivering production systems with the business rather than from a backlog handed over the wall, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Hands-on production experience with Palantir Foundry (ontology, pipelines / transforms, Workshop, Code Repositories) required, or demonstrably equivalent experience owning a comparable operational ontology and application platform in a large enterprise.
- Experience leading technical delivery in a multi-party environment (vendor FDEs, internal engineering, business operations) without people-management authority.
- Ability to integrate Foundry and AIP with enterprise platforms (Snowflake or equivalent Lakehouse, Kafka / event backbones, REST APIs, Entra ID) using approved, non-invasive patterns against systems of record.
- Advanced judgment on what belongs on a low-code / accelerator platform and what must be rebuilt as owned services; ability to enforce that line with vendor and business stakeholders.
- Strong software engineering skills in Python, with solid working knowledge of TypeScript or Java, SQL, Spark / PySpark, and REST APIs.
- Hands-on Foundry skills: pipelines and transforms, ontology objects and actions, Workshop applications, Functions, and Foundry security (markings, restricted views).
- Working understanding of Palantir AIP — AIP Logic, agents, tool invocation, and prompt / workflow evaluation — sufficient to build and operate examiner-facing features, not only configure them.
- Experience with data pipelines, incremental transforms, and integration with enterprise data platforms (Snowflake or equivalent, event streams, APIs).
- Knowledge of cloud infrastructure concepts, identity (Entra / OIDC), security patterns, and operational best practices sufficient to ship into a regulated environment.
- Ability to implement Foundry and AIP solutions in alignment with enterprise architecture, governance, PHI handling, and compliance requirements.
- Ability to sit with examiners or operations staff, watch the work, and turn that into a scoped pipeline, action, or Workshop change.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced Transformation Office, including pairing daily with vendor forward-deployed engineers.
Nice to have:
- Experience in insurance, claims, healthcare, or another heavily regulated operational domain preferred.
