Complete required online training (5 hours) within 2 weeks of hiring Employment type: Seasonal for Summer: June-August position for summer programmingPosition Description: Primary tasks:Driving program youth and staff to field trips from both summer program age groups (K-8th) and serve as an additional adult chaperone for field trips and outings in the community.Provide intervention and support for children experiencing difficulties engaging with group or activities (e.g. trauma-aware interventions and care), allowing mentors to proceed with group activitiesDriving and Field Trip Chaperone tasks:Comply with R CITYs Vehicle Use PolicyAssist with program logistics and ensure adequate completion of records for the day (e.g. driving logs, incident reports, meal counts, etc.)Ensure adequate clean-up of the vehicles with an eye checking for repair needs.Communicate with R CITY Directors regarding concerns or questions from the day, especially any discipline or family communication issuesMonitor the whereabouts of an assigned group (usually 510 students) at all times, including during transitions and bathroom breaks, navigating the sites and ensuring the group meets promptly for departure. Be familiar with emergency procedures, know the location of first aid kits, and maintain a list of emergency contact numbers for their group.Ensure all participants follow safety and behavior expectations, such as wearing seatbelts or staying within designated areas at the destination. Floating Mentor tasks: Mentor a small group of youth (4-5 students) to promote their social and academic growth which includes participation in programming and activities that support that goal. Additional evening and weekend activities that promote these goals are optional. Develop relationships with parents/guardians, teachers and school personnel for R CITY students in grades K-8, utilizing those relationships to promote their social and academic growth.Cooperate with R CITY team on whole-group aspects of after school programming, including but not limited to space preparation and cleanup, small group teaching, and enrichment time.Attend staff and organizational meetings and trainings as requested.Adhere to all R CITY, Chicago Public Schools, and Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority policies and procedures, as well as written and spoken guidelines and expectations.Requirements: 3+ years experience in education or youth programming (e.g. large group leadership, classroom teaching, small group teaching, or classroom support)3+ years experience working with children with trauma and/or special needs.Clean driving recordAbility to pass Chicago Public Schools background check.
