Project Superintendent

The Project Superintendent oversees all phases of industrial construction projects, from initial planning through completion. This role studies project specifications to develop detailed construction procedures, establishes staffing plans and schedules for each phase, and coordinates supervisory, clerical, engineering, and field personnel. The superintendent ensures that work progresses safely, efficiently, and in accordance with specifications, while maintaining clear communication with subcontractors, inspectors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders. This position plays a key leadership role on site, managing crews, resolving construction challenges, and driving continuous improvement in construction methods and project execution.

Responsibilities include reviewing and studying project specifications to plan construction procedures, assembling and organizing supervisory, clerical, engineering, and field workers, ordering and coordinating the procurement of tools, equipment, and materials, directing and conferring with supervisory personnel and subcontractors, collaborating with supervisory personnel and company representatives to address and resolve complaints and grievances, working closely with supervisory and project management personnel, inspectors, and suppliers to resolve construction problems, inspecting work in progress, preparing or reviewing progress reports, directing workers involved in major maintenance or reconditioning projects, preparing and submitting administrative documentation, ensuring strict adherence to all safety rules and regulations, providing on-the-job training, guidance, and mentoring, partnering with human resources and other supervisors to hire and/or transfer employees, administering employee discipline and recognition, managing subordinate supervisors, carrying out supervisory responsibilities, and leading onsite activities at industrial manufacturing facilities.

Essential skills include 410 years of experience with metal building and concrete construction, a strong industrial construction background, hands-on experience with steel erection and concrete construction, proven construction supervision experience, demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and apply construction specifications and project documents, ability to plan and manage construction schedules, staffing, and resource allocation, experience overseeing and coordinating subcontractors and supervisory personnel, strong leadership skills, solid understanding of OSHA safety rules and regulations, current valid driver's license, and ability to work effectively in loud, dirty industrial manufacturing environments.

Additional skills and qualifications include commercial construction experience, experience working in industrial manufacturing facilities, CDL preferred, OSHA 30-hour certification preferred, first aid and CPR certification preferred, certified crane operator credentials preferred, ability to prepare and review detailed progress, cost, and material reports, strong communication skills, capability to provide effective on-the-job training and mentorship, experience conducting performance evaluations, and comfort with using company-provided technology.

Work environment is based primarily onsite at industrial manufacturing facilities, which are typically loud and dirty environments with active heavy equipment, steel erection, and concrete construction activities. The position includes the use of company-provided tools and technology such as a company truck, gas card, mobile phone, and laptop or tablet to support travel between job sites, communication, and project reporting. Job type and location is a permanent position based out of Birmingham, AL. Pay range is $90000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
