ABOUT THE ROLE
Amrize supplies a variety of concrete mixes to the commercial, industrial, and residential markets across the greater Bellingham area and Whatcom County. The Quality Control Supervisor is accountable for ensuring that the quality of delivered ready-mix products from two ready-mix facilities in the Whatcom County area is maintained within a lowest-cost producer environment. This role is responsible for the QA testing of raw materials and ready-mix batches, the preparation and management of all mix designs, and technical support across plant operations. The Quality Control Supervisor interfaces internally with plant operators, batchers, drivers, and dispatchers, and externally with clients, pump operators, and concrete placers and finishers. The successful candidate will bring deep knowledge of mix design, concrete troubleshooting, plant operations, and project specifications, and will be comfortable presenting to customers, specifiers, and industry stakeholders.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
  • Ensure the quality of all ready-mix products produced at two Whatcom County facilities meets or exceeds project specifications and Amrize standards, through active testing of raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
  • Design, develop, and maintain ready-mix mix designs that serve customer needs while optimizing cement and supplementary material efficiencies, including slag and fly ash usage, to minimize production costs.
  • Provide accurate and timely ready-mix cost information to sales and management, and offer alternate product solutions to meet evolving customer needs.
  • Conduct quality audits at plant and field locations; prepare technical reports and presentations for customers, specifiers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot concrete quality issues in the field and at the plant, acting as the primary technical resource for batchers, drivers, dispatchers, and Ready-Mix operations staff.
  • Support the Ready-Mix Manager and plant operations team in technical functions related to mix design efficiency, work method development, and material cost reporting.
  • Educate and coach ready-mix truck drivers and plant personnel on concrete quality standards and best practices.
  • Supervise and develop one direct report (QA Technician), providing guidance, coaching, and performance oversight.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.


WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience. Certified Engineering Technologist (or equivalent US credential) also considered.
Additional Education Preferred: Advanced coursework or professional development in concrete technology, materials science, or construction engineering.
Field of Study Preferred: Civil engineering, materials engineering, construction management, or related field.
Required Work Experience: 3-5 years of experience in ready-mix concrete, concrete materials, or a closely related industry.
Required Training/Certifications: USA Concrete technical training or certification (e.g., ACI, NRMCA) is a strong asset.
Required Technical Skills: Technically proficient in ready-mix concrete, cement chemistry, supplementary cementitious materials (fly ash, slag), and aggregate properties. Strong familiarity with computers and standard office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Experience with batching/laboratory management systems an asset.
Travel Requirements: Approximately 5% travel, primarily between the two Whatcom County ready-mix facilities and occasional field site visits within the greater Bellingham area.

Additional Requirements:
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to interpret quality data, identify trends, and develop corrective actions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to prepare clear technical reports and present findings to internal and external audiences.
  • Strong team player and communicator; able to work cross-functionally with plant operations, sales, dispatch, and drivers.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Ability to work extended hours when required, including some weekend work during high-demand periods.
  • Safety-oriented with demonstrated commitment to safe work practices in plant and field environments.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.


WHAT WE OFFER
  • Estimated Wage Range: $76,500 - $100,000 USD Annually.
  • Bonus Opportunity og up to 24% of Base Salary.
  • This position is eligible for an annual bonus, based on the financial performance of the operation, 0-20% of base salary.
