Job Description

This inspection position is a hands-on, high-impact role that blends quality inspection, material handling, and inventory control into one position.


You'll be verifying incoming materials, inspecting in-process work, and signing off on finished product before it ships. If something's off, you'll catch it. If something's broken, you'll help solve it. If you like variety and responsibility, you'll fit right in!


You're not just checking boxes, you're protecting quality across the entire operation. From raw steel hitting the dock to finished assemblies heading out, your work directly impacts what the customer receives.

Essential Duties

Material Handling & Logistics

Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other equipment to safely move fabricated assemblies

Load/unload flatbeds and freight carriers; stage materials for production and shipment

Keep the workspace clean, organized, and aligned with JWFI's strong safety culture


Receiving & Quality Inspection

Verify incoming materials and components against purchase orders and packing lists

Inspect raw materials, weldments, and fabricated parts for defects and conformance

Perform dimensional inspections on plates, structural shapes, castings, weldments, and assemblies

Use precision tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures) to validate parts against blueprints

Document inspection results and clearly isolate non-conforming materials

Support project teams to ensure high-quality output from start to finish


Advanced Inspection & Problem Solving

Train on and operate advanced inspection equipment including CMM, Faro Arm, and Laser Tracker

Analyze inspection data to identify trends and drive process improvements

Help resolve quality issues through structured problem-solving and documentation


Inventory Control & Systems Tracking Perform cycle counts and inventory audits for materials and components

Track material movement in ERP/WMS systems

Work with procurement and project teams to resolve discrepancies quickly

Education Level

Minimum of an Associates' degree in a related field

Experience

Work requires:


Minimum of 2 years of experience in manufacturing, warehouse logistics, or quality inspection (heavy industrial or steel environment strongly preferred)

Ability to read and comprehend complex diagrams, blue-prints, weld symbols, and written/verbal instructions.

Familiar with AWS & ISO Welding codes.

Hands-on experience with inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, tape measures)

Comfortable working around heavy materials and equipment

Strong attention to detail without slowing things down

Ability to stay organized, manage multiple priorities, and communicate clearly


Preferred Candidates will have the following qualifications:


Experience with GD&T

Familiarity with CMM, Faro Arm, or similar inspection technology

Prior forklift experience required; overhead crane experience is a big plus

Experience with ERP or inventory tracking systems

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands (including gripping & grasping) and reach with arms. The employee is frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear. The employee will frequently walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/ or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision requirements such as color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. There is frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts with occasional exposure to wet and/ or humid conditions and extreme cold or heat. The employee is at risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
