Presbyterian Healthcare Services, a non-profit healthcare system based in Albuquerque, NM, is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Registered Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will deliver high-quality respiratory care to patients across a variety of age groups and clinical settings, including emergency, intensive care, and general care units. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team, you will assess, plan, and implement individualized respiratory care plans that align with current clinical standards and evidence-based practice.
Primary duties include performing respiratory assessments, administering aerosolized medications, oxygen therapy, bronchial hygiene therapies, and ventilator management, as well as responding to respiratory emergencies and rapid response calls. You will set up, operate, and troubleshoot respiratory equipment and mechanical ventilators, monitor patient responses, document care accurately in the electronic medical record, and communicate clearly with providers and families about treatment plans and patient progress. You will participate in arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation, airway management support, non-invasive ventilation therapies, and patient and family education on respiratory care, equipment use, and disease self-management.
As part of Presbyterian Healthcare Services’ commitment to safety, integrity, accountability, and quality, you will follow all infection prevention, patient identification, and medication safety protocols while maintaining compliance with departmental policies, regulatory standards, and professional guidelines. You will actively contribute to a culture of respect and collaboration, supporting colleagues, mentoring new staff when appropriate, and engaging in quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes and respiratory care services. You will be expected to maintain your clinical competencies through continuing education, participation in in-service trainings, and adherence to licensure and certification requirements.
This position is well suited for a Registered Respiratory Therapist who values patient-centered care and wishes to make a meaningful impact on community health. At Presbyterian Healthcare Services, you will find a collaborative work environment with opportunities for professional growth, including exposure to a wide range of patient populations and clinical conditions, involvement in interdisciplinary rounds, and potential participation in specialty programs such as pulmonary rehabilitation, neonatal or pediatric respiratory care, or sleep medicine support depending on departmental needs. Our culture emphasizes respect, integrity, and accountability, and encourages therapists to actively participate in safety initiatives and quality projects to continually improve the care we provide.
The ideal candidate will bring strong clinical assessment skills, proficiency with modern respiratory equipment and ventilator modes, and confidence in responding to urgent and emergent situations. Strong communication skills, attention to detail in documentation, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential. A commitment to patient education, empathy for patients and families coping with acute and chronic respiratory conditions, and adherence to professional and ethical standards are central to success in this role at Presbyterian Healthcare Services.
