Responsibilities:

• Provide meaningful instruction and support to individuals to strengthen community living and independent living skills.
• Assist individuals with activities of daily living, personal care, health-related needs, and community participation as appropriate.
• Promote community inclusion by supporting individuals in accessing and participating in community activities.
• Encourage the development of positive relationships, social skills, communication skills, and leisure interests.
• Coordinate and participate in recreational, social, and community-based activities based on individual interests and goals.
• Help individuals access appropriate community services, resources, and activities.
• Support individuals in discussing behavioral concerns and other sensitive topics in an appropriate and respectful manner.
• Encourage individuals to identify potential outcomes, make informed choices, and develop problem-solving skills.
• Assist individuals with communicating effectively with Care Coordinators, vendors, healthcare providers, landlords, and other external service providers.
• Provide appropriate supervision and guidance to promote health, safety, independence, and well-being.
• Follow individualized support plans and organizational policies and procedures.
• Maintain professional communication with families and members of the individual's support team.
• Must possess and maintain a personal cell phone for work-related communication as a condition of employment.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid New York State identification card.
• Previous experience as a respite care worker, babysitter, caregiver, or in a related support role.
• Ability to effectively communicate and work with nonverbal children between the ages of 2 and 10.
• Strong commitment to the safety, supervision, and well-being of children.
• Availability to work a minimum of 3 hours per shift.
• Ability to work independently with remote supervision.
• Friendly, approachable, patient, and dependable personality.
• Proficiency with computers.
• Comfort providing appropriate physical support when needed, including situations where a nonverbal child may seek attention through physical contact.
• Ability to communicate professionally with families and members of the support team.
• Must possess and maintain a personal cell phone for work-related communication.

Preferred:

• Previous experience providing respite, direct support, childcare, or community-based services.
• Experience supporting nonverbal children or children with developmental disabilities.

Work Location

Nassau and Suffolk Counties, NY. This is a community-based position providing services in locations determined by the individual's needs and service plan.

Work Hours / Schedule

MondayFriday and/or SaturdaySunday 3:00 PM7:00 PM. Schedules may include holidays based on program and family needs. Minimum shift: 3 hours.

Pay

$17.00 per hour.
