Position Overview
The Rigger - Overhead Crane is responsible for safely rigging, lifting, positioning, and securing large and heavy loads using overhead cranes and rigging equipment. This role requires strong technical rigging knowledge, experience working at elevated heights, and the ability to safely rig complex shipboard and structural components.
Multiple positions available on 1st and 2nd shift.

Position Overview
The Rigger - Overhead Crane is responsible for safely rigging, lifting, positioning, and securing large and heavy loads using overhead cranes and rigging equipment. This role requires strong technical rigging knowledge, experience working at elevated heights, and the ability to safely rig complex shipboard and structural components.
Multiple positions available on 1st and 2nd shift.
Shift & Schedule
- 1st Shift: Starts at 6:00 AM
- 2nd Shift: Starts at 3:00 PM
- Shift Lengths: 8?, 10?, or 12?hour shifts based on production needs
- Overtime may be required
Key Responsibilities
- Perform safe rigging operations using overhead cranes (experience must be documented on resume).
- Rig, lift, move, and position large and complex loads.
- Apply proper chain fall and strap loading techniques.
- Perform underwater hull propulsion rigging, including:
- Rudders
- Propellers
- Shafts
- Fin stabilizers
- Interpret crane load charts and understand crane capacities.
- Support staging construction, ship mooring, and structural rigging activities.
- Work at heights and safely climb ladders, staging, and scaffolding.
- Follow all shipyard safety rules, including Firewatch requirements and PPE use.
Required Qualifications
- 5-7 years of rigging experience required.
- Minimum 5 years experience required for 2nd Class Riggers.
- Overhead crane experience required (must be clearly demonstrated on resume).
- Rigger I certification required (signal crane certification preferred).
- Strong knowledge of chain fall and strap loading.
- Ability to safely rig heavy and high?value loads.
- Knowledge of ship structures, anchor chains, staging construction, cranes, and ship mooring.
- Ability to climb and work at elevated heights without hesitation.
- U.S. Citizenship required due to restricted work locations.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- DBIDS eligibility preferred.
- Previous shipyard experience preferred.
Work Environment
- Active shipyard and vessel environments.
- Exposure to cranes, heavy equipment, confined spaces, and elevated work platforms.
- PPE required including hardhat, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and fall protection as applicable.
