RN Coordinator ED Flow Throughput
Apply NowMission Health, based in Asheville, NC, is seeking an RN Coordinator ED Flow Throughput to support safe, efficient, and timely patient movement through the Emergency Department and into appropriate levels of care. In this role, the RN Coordinator will use strong clinical judgment, real-time data, and effective communication to coordinate bed placement, prioritize admissions and transfers, and reduce delays in care across the ED and inpatient units. Working in close collaboration with ED physicians, bedside nurses, case management, and hospital operations, the RN Coordinator monitors patient acuity, length of stay, and capacity constraints to optimize throughput while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
The RN Coordinator ED Flow Throughput provides direct clinical oversight during transitions of care, ensuring that handoffs are thorough, orders are clarified, and patients and families are kept informed. The nurse in this position participates in huddles, capacity management meetings, and escalation processes to resolve bottlenecks and support surge planning. Responsibilities include identifying barriers to discharge or admission, facilitating diagnostic and consult workflows, and escalating clinical or operational concerns to leadership as appropriate. The RN Coordinator also supports process improvement initiatives aimed at reducing ED wait times, left-without-being-seen rates, and overall length of stay.
As a key member of the Healthcare & Medical Services department, this role practices within the full scope of professional nursing standards, applying evidence-based practice, critical thinking, and excellent communication skills. The RN Coordinator mentors and serves as a resource to ED and inpatient staff regarding patient flow policies, documentation, and best practices. Accurate documentation, use of electronic health records and bed management systems, and adherence to regulatory and hospital guidelines are essential.
