The RN Coordinator ED Flow Throughput at Mission Health is a key member of the Emergency Department team responsible for optimizing patient flow, supporting safe, timely care, and promoting an exceptional patient and family experience. Based in Asheville, NC at a leading comprehensive healthcare provider, this role works collaboratively with physicians, charge nurses, bed management, case management, and ancillary departments to coordinate the movement of patients into, through, and out of the Emergency Department.

The RN Coordinator ED Flow Throughput continuously monitors ED census, acuity, and staffing, anticipates bottlenecks, and implements real-time strategies to reduce wait times, left-without-being-seen rates, and overall length of stay. Using strong clinical judgment and excellent communication skills, this nurse prioritizes patients based on acuity, facilitates triage and placement, and supports escalation processes during high-volume or surge situations. The RN Coordinator assists with patient assessments and interventions within scope of practice, ensuring adherence to evidence-based standards, regulatory requirements, and Mission Health policies.

In this position, the RN Coordinator collaborates closely with inpatient units to coordinate timely admissions, transfers, and discharges, helping to ensure appropriate bed placement and continuity of care. The role includes reviewing throughput metrics, participating in performance improvement initiatives, and providing real-time feedback and education to support best practices in flow management. The nurse serves as a resource and mentor to ED staff, modeling professional practice, teamwork, and respectful communication consistent with Mission Health’s culture of collaboration and professional growth.

The RN Coordinator ED Flow Throughput must be adept at working in a fast-paced environment, comfortable with technology and electronic health records, and capable of prioritizing multiple competing demands.
