The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is seeking a Senior Bargaining Coordinator. This position is part of the Union Strength team with overall responsibility for contract campaigns and bargaining support for locals. This role supports may also train and teach locals in bargaining techniques and contract campaign best practices.
The primary responsibilities include supporting local unions' collective bargaining efforts and contract campaigns, training and developing leaders in the bargaining practice of collective bargaining, crafting strategies and training programs for local union leaders related to collective bargaining, first contracts, and contract campaigns, planning and delivery of training programs to meet the needs of local unions, maintaining knowledge of first-contract campaigns and best practices, helping create leadership development initiatives for local union leaders, and performing additional duties as needed in alignment with the Hub's mission and goals.
This position reports to the Union Strength Hub Director and includes contacts with all levels of SEIU staff, local union leaders and staff, International Executive Board Member, SEIU Executive Officers, Geographic Team, and SEIU supporting departments.
Qualifications and professional experience include a minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of experience demonstrating progressively increasing mastery in the field of organizing workers and unions, and a minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of negotiations, especially in labor, including but not limited to first contracts and other contract campaigns. The incumbent must have and be able to demonstrate proficiency in proven strategies for union membership growth, leadership development and innovation tools and practices, demonstrated ability to integrate racial justice and anti-racist principles into policy development, staff management, and coalition-building, management of multiple priorities and projects in a timely manner, collaboration with staff from multiple positions, and with elected leaders, development of diverse, inclusive, high-performing teams, supervision of senior level staff, excellent planning and organizational skills, exercise leadership and good judgement in sensitive situations, knowledge of union systems, structures, and cultures, and practical skills and knowledge of leadership development that is rooted in equity and inclusion.
Work is generally performed in an office setting, and frequently requires work on the ground or in other settings to perform the tasks required to complete assignments. Must be available for frequent travel with overnight stays. Regular travel and work beyond traditional business hours are required.
