STUDENT ASSISTANCE COORDINATOR

Qualification: Student Assistance Coordinator certificate Effective: 9/1/2026-7/31/2027 Benefits: 10 sick days, 3 personal (prorated if hired after September 1) Health Benefits: Medical, Dental and Prescription insurance for single or family Tuition Reimbursement after 2 years of employment 2 professional development days Salary: As per NBEA Contract (Pending Budgetary Approval) Salary Range: $63,201 - $71,495

Reports To: Director of School Counseling Services and/or his/her designee

Salary Grade: As per negotiated NBEA agreement

Nature and Scope of Job: The Student Assistance Coordinator reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee and assists with the organization, implementation, administration, and coordination of the district's substance awareness program.

Job Qualifications:

  • NJ Department of Education issued Student Assistance Coordinator endorsement.
  • Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans especially as it pertains to I&RS.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education, students and substance use.
  • Knowledge of NJSA 18A:40A-1 and procedures for the identification of students possibly abusing drugs, alcohol, or other substances and mental health issues / concerns
  • Knowledge of community resources available for the prevention, intervention, treatment, and rehabilitation of alcohol and drug problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with at risk students.
  • Knowledge of behavioral modifications and intervention strategies which will improve student behavior and motivate disaffected students.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plan and implement staff alcohol/drug in-services, workshops, and training sessions for school personnel.
  • Conduct meetings with administration and/or faculty to coordinate the program and encourage referrals to related health and social services.
  • Develop and maintain a list of referral resources for alcoholism and drug dependency treatment and related health/social services. Visit programs to assure appropriate referrals.
  • Act as liaison between the schools and the community regarding alcohol/drug programs/issues.
  • Assist with the development of local drug and alcohol policies and procedures.
  • Work in coordination with community and school members who work with high risk populations in the school.
  • Serve as a resource person for school personnel.
  • Demonstrate professional growth through continuing education and membership in professional organizations.
  • He or she works in collaboration with Directors, Assistant Superintendents, and the Superintendent, as appropriate.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office and school environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
