Position Overview
Supervisor of Production plans, directs, coordinates, and controls manufacturing activities in assigned work center to achieve established management goals. Supervision of shifts or multiple departments to maintain production schedules with quality product and on time delivery. Responsibilities include direction and training of employees, maintenance of equipment, monitoring inventory levels and enforcement of health, safety, and environmental policies.

Supervisor of Production meets production objectives through assigned personnel meeting or exceeding established quality objectives, within all regulatory guidelines, and within established costs.
Responsibilities
Schedules production to assure a minimum of problems and delays, material shortages or equipment delays
Anticipates problems and delays for production schedules and corrects through problem solving and trouble shooting
Assigns work to meet manufacturing requirements
Controls labor and materials usage to meet or improve standard costs
Accurately reports events regarding production schedules and employees by monitoring individual production reports and correlating them to group reports
Arranges for proper maintenance of machines and equipment
Continuously improves processes
Understands principles of continuous improvement
Has functional use of various methods of continuous improvement
Knows the objectives being pursued within his/her area of responsibility in continuous improvement
Applies tools of continuous improvement within area of responsibility
Deals effectively with union-represented and non-represented personnel
Communicates daily with subordinate employees
Orients new employees to department, shift, etc.
Familiarizes personnel with Company rules and regulations
Instructs and trains employees and motivates them to be quality oriented, safety conscious, efficient and to strive for continuous improvement and ISO 9000
Coaches and counsels' employees as necessary
Administers union agreement
Has a working understanding of the Union contract and management's obligations under the National Labor Relations Act
Identify issues regulated by the contract or labor law and obtain guidance on how to properly respond either through research of the contract or other sources or through appropriate management personnel
Understands the Transfer procedure in the Union contract. Manages work within area of responsibility to minimize bid/bump situations
Informs General Production Supervisor and Human Resources when permanent transfer occurs
Understands the Overtime provision of the Union contract and properly canvasses and documents activities
Has a working understanding of the plants rules and Corporate policies dealing employee behavior and respond appropriately to matters governed by these policies
Handles grievances at first step
Provides training to subordinates in work practices, quality, etc
Maintains good employee relations through counseling and proper application of employee relation policies
Handles disciplinary matters through written warning step
Seeks counsel/advice for higher level disciplinary matters
Administers the health environmental and safety program in the work center; enforces health environmental and safety standards, work practices and housekeeping
Meets all ethical, regulatory, etc., standards for position
Understands blood lead program for areas of responsibility
Coaches/counsels/disciplines as necessary to meet
Ensures that Quality Systems and Protocols are followed
Handles all administrative duties/paperwork
Investigates material variances and reports result of investigation to General Manufacturing Supervisor
Prepares all required reports
May do one or more of the following; check timecards for accuracy; fill out production reports; corrective action for quality problems, etc
Communicate delay reports to management
Performs other work as assigned by General Manufacturing Supervisor
Supervise from 10 to 30 hourly employees
Scheduling work and equipment changes
Actions taken on safety and quality
Temporary movement of personnel to meet production requirements
Execution of schedule
Approval of overtime
Modifications that would alter product
Major disciplinary action
Re-layout of production area
Basic Qualifications
High School diploma
Minimum 5 years production experience
Knowledge of EEOC, OSHA, and EPA rules and regulations
Computer literacy
Training and coaching skills
Communication skills
Some knowledge or experience in one or all the following: manufacturing, mechanical aptitude, battery or electrical knowledge, SPC training, problem solving
Preferred Qualifications
2-year degree or equivalent
Bilingual in Spanish
