Role Overview
The Team Lead - Shipping is responsible for overseeing daily outbound fulfillment operations, ensuring orders are picked, packed, documented, and shipped accurately and on time. This role combines hands-on execution with frontline leadership to support team productivity, maintain quality standards, and ensure smooth coordination with carriers and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Operations
* Lead, coach, and support shipping associates in daily fulfillment activities
* Assign tasks, monitor throughput, and ensure shipping deadlines and schedules are met
* Train new team members on shipping procedures, systems, and safety requirements
* Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shipping area aligned with warehouse standards
* Escalate shipment delays, staffing concerns, or operational risks to the Warehouse Manager
Order Fulfillment & Shipping Execution
* Oversee picking, packing, and staging of outbound orders based on sales orders and schedules
* Verify item accuracy, quantities, serial numbers, and required documentation prior to shipment
* Ensure correct generation of shipping labels, packing slips, and Bills of Lading (BOLs)
* Coordinate daily carrier pickups (e.g., UPS, FedEx, freight carriers) and resolve routine carrier issues
* Confirm proper packaging and labeling to prevent damage during transit
* Ensure shipment status updates are accurately recorded in ERP/WMS systems
Accuracy, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
* Monitor order accuracy, on-time shipment metrics, and documentation quality
* Investigate and resolve basic shipping discrepancies or delivery issues
* Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions related to shipping errors or damages
* Identify process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and throughput
* Ensure compliance with company procedures, safety standards, and quality expectations
Qualifications & Skills
* High school diploma or equivalent
* 2+ years of warehouse, fulfillment, or shipping experience preferred
* Prior experience leading, training, or mentoring team members is an asset
* Familiarity with shipping systems, carrier portals, and ERP/WMS platforms preferred
* Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy in order fulfillment
* Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and stand for extended periods in a warehouse environment
* Basic computer proficiency and comfort working within operational systems
* Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills
