Job DescriptionJob DescriptionPosition Description: We are seeking a skilled Trailer Mechanic to support preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of a modern trailer fleet. This role is ideal for a hands-on professional who takes pride in technical accuracy, safety, and keeping equipment reliable and road-ready. The position is responsible for performing preventative maintenance on dry van trailers and associated equipment, including tires, air brake systems, wheel seals, lighting systems, and trailer doors. The Trailer Mechanic will diagnose and repair trailer systems, support maintenance of trailer chassis as needed, and ensure all equipment meets operational and regulatory standards. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to identify potential equipment failures proactively, and a commitment to maintaining accurate service records in a team-oriented shop environment.
This position includes performing scheduled and unscheduled repairs, maintaining and tracking parts and equipment inventory, and ensuring all work is completed efficiently and in accordance with company and regulatory standards. The Trailer Mechanic will maintain a clean and safe work environment, assist in trailer movement and yard coordination as needed, and identify opportunities to improve maintenance processes and overall fleet reliability. Responsibilities also include documenting inspections and repairs, supporting compliance with applicable Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) standards, and communicating effectively with operations and leadership regarding equipment status and repair timelines.

Standard Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform DOT-compliant inspections, including pre-trip, post-trip, and annual trailer inspections
- Diagnose and repair ABS systems, lighting electrical wiring, and air system leaks
- Conduct structural repairs, including minor welding and fabrication as required
- Inspect, maintain and repair suspension systems as necessary, landing gear, and coupling components
- Ensure compliance with FMCSA inspection, repair, and maintenance (IRM) requirements
- Utilize maintenance software or work order systems to track repairs and service history
- Support roadside repair coordination when necessary
- Assist in evaluating vendor repairs and third-party maintenance quality
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to shop efficiency, turnaround time, and cost control
Required Experience and Qualifications
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Minimum High School Diploma/GED required, Associate’s Degree in a mechanical discipline preferred
- 1+ year of diesel, mechanic, or forklift maintenance experience (or trade school equivalent)
- Hands-on mechanical experience required
- ASE certification preferred but not required
- Must own a basic set of tools
- Willingness to work outdoors or in the elements
- Read documentation and communicate in English
- Strong organizational skills
- Able to frequently lift 21-50 lbs., 51-100 lbs. occasionally, and over 100 lbs. occasionally

Compensation details: 26-34 Hourly Wage
