US Wages Calculator
Convert your hourly, weekly, or bi-weekly wages to annual take-home pay. Useful when an employer quotes an hourly rate and you want to know what that translates to per year, per month, and after tax. Calculations use 2026 IRS federal brackets, FICA payroll tax, and your state's income tax rate.
Hourly wages to annual take-home — the maths
The standard US full-time year is 40 hours per week × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours. To go from an hourly wage to gross annual: multiply by 2,080. Then the calculator applies federal income tax (10–37% progressive), FICA (7.65% flat plus 0.9% over high-earner thresholds), and your state's income tax to get the take-home figure.
This calculator assumes you work the full standard 2,080 hours. Part-time, seasonal, or overtime workers should adjust their effective hourly rate or annual hours manually for accurate output. For example, a 30-hour-per-week schedule is 1,560 hours; multiply your hourly rate by 1,560 instead of 2,080 for the gross annual.
Common hourly wages and their annualised take-home
Approximate take-home for a Single filer in a no-state-income-tax state (TX/FL/WA), 2026 brackets, full-time 2,080 hours:
| Hourly wage | Gross annual | Take-home (no-tax state) | Take-home (CA, ~6.8%) |
|---|---|---|---|
| $15 | $31,200 | ~$26,500 | ~$25,600 |
| $20 | $41,600 | ~$34,500 | ~$33,000 |
| $25 | $52,000 | ~$42,400 | ~$39,800 |
| $30 | $62,400 | ~$50,000 | ~$46,500 |
| $40 | $83,200 | ~$64,500 | ~$59,500 |
| $50 | $104,000 | ~$78,800 | ~$71,800 |

Frequently asked
How do hourly wages convert to annual salary?
The standard assumption is 40 hours per week × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours per year. So $20/hour ≈ $41,600 gross annual; $25/hour ≈ $52,000; $30/hour ≈ $62,400. The calculator uses this assumption when you enter "Per hour" — adjust manually if you work part-time or get overtime.
What is the difference between wages and salary?
Wages are typically paid by the hour and vary with hours worked. Salary is a fixed annual amount paid in equal instalments regardless of hours. Hourly workers (wage earners) qualify for overtime under the FLSA when they work over 40 hours/week; salaried workers may not. The tax treatment is the same in either case.
Does the calculator handle overtime?
No — it assumes a 40-hour week. To estimate overtime impact, calculate your effective hourly rate including overtime (e.g., 45 hours/week with 5 hours at 1.5× = effectively 47.5 base hours), enter the higher hourly figure, and the calculator gives the annualised take-home.
Are tips counted as wages?
Yes. Reported tips are treated as wages by the IRS and subject to the same federal, FICA, and state taxes. Enter your total wages including tips. Tipped occupations have a separate federal minimum wage threshold ($2.13/hour federal) but for tax purposes, total reported earnings count.
Why is my hourly take-home rate lower than my hourly gross?
Same reason as for salaried workers: federal, FICA, and state taxes are withheld from each paycheck. For a $20/hour wage in California, take-home is roughly $14.50/hour after taxes. The calculator shows the hourly take-home on the right.
