Job Description

General Liability Associate | Basking Ridge, NJ | Hybrid | $190K

Seeking a mid-level General Liability Associate with 2–9 years of post-bar experience and an active New Jersey bar. This is not a clerkship or first-year seat.

Our client is a national insurance-defense firm with a New Jersey hub in Basking Ridge. The docket is New Jersey general liability and premises work, staffed locally and backed by a multi-state platform. The office is known as low-pressure and well mentored. Trial is part of the practice, not a brochure line.

Why You Should Join:

  • $190K for New Jersey General Liability – Strong suburban-NJ pay without a Newark or Manhattan five-day mandate
  • A Real New Jersey Hub, Not a Letterhead Office – Files are staffed in Basking Ridge; you are not a satellite feeding another city’s partners
  • Trial Work in New Jersey Courts – Hearings, depositions, and trial prep are expected of mid-levels, not locked to two senior partners
  • Mentors Instead of Volume Pressure – Collegial office, no yellers, people who will actually review your brief
  • National Backup When a File Explodes – Multi-office defense platform behind local NJ cases, so you are not understaffed the week a case gets serious

Key Duties:

  • Defend general liability and premises matters in New Jersey state and federal court
  • Manage discovery, depositions, and motion practice
  • Handle hearings, mediations, and trial prep
  • Advise carriers on exposure and strategy
  • Take ownership of New Jersey files through resolution

Requirements:

  • JD and active New Jersey bar
  • 2–9 years of post-bar general liability or insurance defense experience
  • Current or recent title of Associate or equivalent — law clerks and summer associates will not be considered
  • Deposition and court-appearance experience

No one fits every box perfectly - if you’re a practicing General Liability Associate seeking $190K in Basking Ridge, let’s talk confidentially.
