Lawrence Doors, Inc., a leader in the commercial door industry, and a part of Amarr / ASSA ABLOY Group (the global leader in opening solutions), is seeking a Metal Fabrication Technician to work in our Production Line. (TEMP to Hire) Must be dependable, mechanical, able to read dimensions and use a tape measure.
Position Overview: The Metal Fabrication Technician is responsible for performing various fabrication and assembly tasks related to the production of commercial roll-up door components. Depending on assignment, the technician may work on barrel fabrication or wall guide fabrication. Tasks may include cutting, welding, machining, punching, and assembling metal parts.
Key Responsibilities (based on assignment):
- Cut steel tubing, profiles, sheet metal, or channels to specified dimensions.
- Perform MIG welding on structural components such as barrels or guide assemblies.
- Operate lathes, end mills, and presses to modify parts including shafts, tube, and guide structures.
- Punch holes and slots in metal components using mechanical or hydraulic equipment.
- Prepare and install torsion springs according to specifications.
- Assemble metal parts using hand and power tools.
- Inspect fabricated components for accuracy, quality, and structural integrity.
- Document work performed and report any issues or deviations.
- Regularly lift and handle materials weighing over 40 lbs.
- Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training preferred.
- 13 years of experience in metal fabrication, welding, or machining.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience with MIG welding and fabrication machinery is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to different fabrication tasks.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Compensation: $22.00 - $26.00 per hour (depending on experience.)
