Project Engineer

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Project Engineer to support the successful planning, coordination, and execution of construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. The Project Engineer will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, clients, architects, engineers, and vendors to ensure project information is accurate, organized, and effectively communicated.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of construction processes who enjoys coordinating multiple project activities and maintaining accurate documentation in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with the coordination and administration of construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, scopes of work, contracts, and related documentation.
  • Prepare, submit, track, and maintain Requests for Information (RFIs) and ensure responses are properly documented and communicated.
  • Manage the project submittal process, including submittal logs, submissions, reviews, approvals, and distribution.
  • Maintain accurate project information within Procore, including RFIs, submittals, drawings, specifications, change events, photographs, correspondence, and other documentation.
  • Assist with identifying, documenting, and tracking project scope changes and change events.
  • Review drawings and specifications to identify discrepancies, conflicts, or missing information and communicate issues to the appropriate project team members.
  • Coordinate closely with Superintendents to ensure RFIs, submittals, change events, and field issues are properly understood and documented.
  • Work with subcontractors and vendors to obtain project documentation, product information, pricing, submittals, and other required materials.
  • Assist with reviewing subcontractor scopes of work and contract requirements.
  • Maintain current drawings, specifications, addenda, bulletins, and other revised project documents.
  • Assist with tracking project schedules, long-lead materials, procurement, and other items that could impact project progress.
  • Attend preconstruction, coordination, weekly, and closeout meetings and assist with documenting and following up on action items.
  • Support communication and coordination between clients, architects, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal project teams.
  • Assist with resolving project issues by gathering information, documenting decisions, and following through on assigned tasks.
  • Support preparation of project closeout documentation, including as-built drawings, O&M manuals, warranties, approved submittals, and related materials.
  • Assist with tracking and closing out punch list items.
  • Maintain organized and accurate electronic project files in accordance with company procedures.
  • Visit active project sites as needed to assist with project coordination and documentation and gain an understanding of field conditions.
  • Manage multiple priorities and deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Maintain professional relationships with project stakeholders and uphold company policies and ethical standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant construction experience.
  • General understanding of construction processes, terminology, drawings, specifications, and project coordination.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret construction drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project correspondence.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, clients, architects, engineers, and vendors.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Experience with Procore and Bluebeam is preferred.
  • Experience with healthcare construction or similarly complex construction environments is highly desirable.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
  • Must be located in or within reasonable commuting distance of the Sacramento, CA area.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience as a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, or similar construction coordination role.
  • Experience managing RFIs, submittals, change events, drawings, and project documentation.
  • Experience working with Procore on active construction projects.
  • Experience reading and coordinating construction drawings and specifications.
  • Healthcare, commercial, institutional, or other complex construction project experience.

Work Environment

  • Full-time, in-person position.
  • Regular interaction with project teams, subcontractors, vendors, clients, architects, and engineers.
  • Periodic travel to active construction sites may be required.
