This role focuses on the safe setup, loading, movement, and relocation of heavy equipment within a distribution and manufacturing environment. You will work as part of a team to rig, secure, and transport machinery using a wide range of rigging gear and material-handling equipment, while consistently following safety procedures and industry best practices.
Responsibilities
- Work as part of a team dedicated to the safe setup, loading, moving, and relocation of heavy equipment.
- Inspect and prepare loads to be moved, ensuring they are safe and secure before transport.
- Determine the proper method of lifting equipment for each assigned project, including assessing load characteristics.
- Select appropriate rigging equipment such as chains, binders, ratchet straps, beams, pulleys, clamps, and bolts, and inspect all rigging before each use.
- Prepare and assemble rigging equipment needed to lift and move heavy machinery.
- Load and unload semi-trucks, including strapping and securing loads in a safe and compliant manner.
- Operate forklifts, overhead lifts, hoists, winches, cranes, jacks, rollers, and other material-handling equipment using proper methods and safety practices.
- Determine weights and identify the center of gravity of items to be lifted to ensure safe rigging and lifting operations.
- Uncrate materials using appropriate hand and power tools.
- Wrap, band, and pack equipment to prevent damage during handling and transport.
- Communicate effectively with rigging, construction, engineering, customer, and other on-site teams to coordinate work and ensure safe operations.
- Break down rigging equipment after use and conduct post-rigging inspections.
- Perform ongoing inspection of rigging and moving equipment, making necessary minor repairs or removing equipment from service when required.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable state and company safety procedures and guidelines at all times.
- Perform general labor tasks related to staging, rigging preparation, cleanup, and support of machinery moving projects.
- Use computer programs as needed for training, payroll, and other operational functions.
Essential Skills
- High level of mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand how machinery and rigging systems function.
- Strong work ethic and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull a minimum of 50 pounds and maneuver heavy equipment.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, and twisting.
- Ability to work outdoors in harsh weather conditions.
- Ability to work at heights as required by the project.
- General understanding of heavy equipment rigging and rigging equipment, including chains, binders, and ratchet straps.
- Ability to operate forklifts or willingness and ability to become forklift certified.
- Knowledge and ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and moving equipment.
- Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a strong safety mindset in all tasks.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Preferred but not required: Two (2) years of experience as a driver, rigger, or machinery mover.
- Previous forklift experience and/or current forklift certification.
- Familiarity with the logistics or machinery moving industry.
- Ability to navigate computer programs for training, payroll, and other operational functions.
- Experience working in distribution, manufacturing, or similar industrial environments.

Work Environment
This position operates primarily in distribution and manufacturing settings where heavy machinery and equipment are moved, installed, and relocated. The work involves both indoor and outdoor tasks, including exposure to harsh weather conditions. You will regularly work around forklifts, overhead lifts, hoists, winches, cranes, jacks, rollers, and other industrial moving equipment, as well as hand and power tools. The role is physically demanding and requires frequent lifting, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and working at heights. The environment is safety-focused, with established procedures and expectations for the proper use of personal protective equipment and adherence to all safety guidelines.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of West Sacramento, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
