Tax Controversy Attorney
Apply NowMcClure Harrison is conducting a search for an experienced Tax Controversy Attorney to join the Tax practice of a well-established full-service Mid- Atlantic law firm. This position is open to various firm locations, with Baltimore or Washington DC the ideal locations.
This is an opportunity for a tax attorney / tax litigation associateor counsel to work directly with the Chair of the Tax Section on a broad range of federal and state tax controversy, tax litigation, IRS, and administrative matters.
The Tax Controversy Attorney will:
- Represent individuals and businesses in IRS and state tax audits, examinations, appeals, and collections proceedings
- Assist with federal and state tax litigation before the U.S. Tax Court and U.S. District Court
- Support matters from initial case assessment and strategy through discovery, motions practice, and trial preparation
- Conduct legal research and draft briefs, motions, memoranda, and other legal documents
- Advise on federal and state tax controversy issues, including income tax, sales and use tax, franchise tax, property tax, and unclaimed property
- Work on both administrative tax controversy and tax litigation matters
- Have opportunities to assist with transactional tax matters as capacity allows
Qualifications
- 1–10 years of experience at a law firm
- Experience or demonstrated interest in tax controversy, tax litigation, tax law, IRS matters, or related litigation
- Strong legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills
- Judicial clerkship and/or litigation experience is a plus
- LLM, CPA, or Accounting background is ideal
- Candidates with relevant federal or state tax experience are encouraged to apply
